Edward Albert, the actor-son of the late screen veteran Eddie Albert who first gained fame co-starring with Goldie Hawn in the 1970s film “Butterflies Are Free” and later became an outspoken environmental activist, has died. He was 55.
Albert, who served on the California Coastal Commission, died Friday in his sleep at his home in Malibu after a battle with lung cancer, said his family. He was surrounded by his immediate family and a few close friends, including a Chumash medicine woman, who performed a traditional ceremony.

Edward Laurence Albert[1] (February 20, 1951 – September 22, 2006) was an American actor.[2] The son of actor Eddie Albert and Mexican actress Margo, he starred opposite Goldie Hawn in Butterflies Are Free (1972), a role for which he won a Golden Globe Award for New Star of the Year. He was nominated for Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy.[3] Albert starred in more than 130 films and television series, including Midway, The Greek Tycoon, Galaxy of Terror, The House Where Evil Dwells, The Yellow Rose, Falcon Crest and Power Rangers Time Force.[2]
