Anna Paquin, a versatile performer, was born in 1982. She moved with her family to New Zealand when she was a child, where she landed her first film role at the age of 9. Her work in "The Piano" earned her an Academy Award. More movies followed, including "Fly Away Home," "X-Men" and "Margaret." Paquin also stars in the hit television drama "True Blood."
Beating out hundreds of other young girls, Paquin won the part of Flora McGrath in "The Piano." She earned strong reviews for her work on the historical drama. The Piano is a 1993 historical drama film written and directed by New Zealand filmmaker Jane Campion. It stars Holly Hunter, Harvey Keitel, Sam Neill, and Anna Paquin in her first major acting role. The film focuses on a mute Scottish woman who travels to a remote part of New Zealand with her young daughter after her arranged marriage to a settler. The plot has similarities to Jane Mander's 1920 novel, The Story of a New Zealand River, but also substantial differences. Campion has cited the novels Wuthering Heights and The African Queen as inspirations.[6]
