Biography
Kevin Michael Rudd AC was the 26th Prime Minister of Australia. He served twice, from 2007 to 2010 and again in 2013.[1]
Since 2023, Rudd has been the 23rd ambassador of Australia to the United States.
Early Life and Education
Kevin is of English and Irish descent. His paternal fourth great-grandparents were English convicts, Thomas Rudd and Mary Cable, who arrived in the Colony of New South Wales in 1801 and 1804, respectively.
One of four children of Albert Rudd and Margaret Eugenie de Vere, Kevin was born in 1957 in Nambour, Queensland, and grew up on a dairy farm in nearby Eumundi. The family left the farm following Albert's death when Kevin was 11 years old.[2][3][4]
Kevin boarded at Marist College Ashgrove in Brisbane. He has described his time there as unhappy due to the indignity of poverty, and the school as "tough, harsh, unforgiving, institutional Catholicism of the old school".[2][3]
