  • Nicola Roberts relaunches Dainty Doll make-up range

Nicola Roberts says she's thankful to Girls Aloud fans for supporting her second career as a make-up designer.

The singer has just relaunched her Dainty Doll range created for women with pale skin.

She told Newsbeat that she needed the break from the group so that she could work on something different.

She said: "I wouldn't have been able to create the line if we'd have been non-stop like we were with the band, the way we were working."

Nicola Roberts originally launched the Dainty Doll range in 2008 as part of ITV2 show The Passions Of Girls Aloud but only produced a small number of products.

Over the past 18 months the singer, 24, has been working on a bigger selection.

She says it's been a personal journey: "I think so many women out there start with a lot of insecurities about their skin tone and whatever it is about their hair or whatever is they feel a little bit uncomfortable with.

"Obviously being in that position and being able to come through that and create a new line has been something that has been very important to me and something that I've had to get right."

    Dainty Doll

In 2007 Nicola had started a limited production of a make-up range called Dainty Doll aimed at the pale-skinned market whilst producing the Girls Aloud-related television series The Passions of Girls Aloud. Then in the following 18 months Roberts expanded the collection which saw a major release with prestigious store Harrods in London exclusively stocking the items. The success led to a release across the United Kingdom with Roberts explaining the concept of Dainty Doll saying "The reason behind me doing this is because I had a point of difference and that was because of the pale skin and it was something I obviously felt really passionate about. I was aware that there weren't many make up brands that catered for women for extra pale skin so I feel proud that I've been the person to do it."
