The two-day tribute to the music legend will remain a high watermark in the history of Classical Arts Society, heading towards its own 40th anniversary next year.
MS was, is and will be synonymous with music. She came back alive on April 2 and April 3 through the myriad voices of local and visiting musicians even as Dr. Gowri Ramnaryan, grand niece of MS, as artistic director of this year’s festival, brought to life the unknown facets of MS through the aptly named program “Born to sing.”
In a two-hour tribute to MS in a musical narrative Gowri Ramnarayan tbrought out he lesser known attributes of MS, who sparkled brilliantly as a musician, a film star, a freedom fighter, socio-political performer, a philanthropist and more.
“Even as four generations admired and revered her music, the program was not merely to celebrate MS the performer and her legacy, but to celebrate MS, a great human being; MS lived as she sang,” Gowri Ramnarayan said.
