    The wife of retired New Orleans Saints player Will Smith has spoken out for the first time since the 34-year-old defensive end was shot dead in April after a minor car accident. 

    Racquel Smith remembered her husband's zest for life, when the football player was posthumously inducted into the Saints Hall of Fame in Kenner, Louisiana on Friday.

    'There were days when I couldn't get out of bed, nor did I want to,' Racquel Smith said in her first public remarks since the incident on April 9 that left her widowed with two gunshot wounds in the legs.

    Acknowledging that her 'worst fear came true',  she said: 'I knew I had to be strong for my three beautiful kids, and that's when I felt Will the most — his strength, his determination, his commitment to being the best.'
