    Sharpe began his career with Starlift steelband, where he worked as a co-arranger with Ray Holman. He is most strongly associated with the Phase II Pan Groove Steel Orchestra, a band he has taken to several finals of the Panorama steelband competition, as well as winning the first place in and [1] Sharpe does not teach steelpan privately one-on-one; instead, he teaches it publicly at the panyard.

    Sharpe started to play steelpan when he was just four years old. He used to play with the Invaders, then he went to Starlift, the steelband with which Ray Holman was taking the revolutionary step of composing music specifically for the instrument. Sharpe wanted to continue what Ray Holman had started by starting his own steelband in

    Len “Boogsie” Sharpe was born on October 28, , and started playing the steelpan at the age of four. By the time he was a teenager he had mastered all the voices and different styles of the pan family. By the early seventies, following the pioneering work of Ray Holman in , “Boogsie” became renowned as a composer and arranger of his own music in national competitions, in both the classical and calypso genres.

    From that time to the present, he has continued to compose and arrange music for PHASE II PAN GROOVE Steel Orchestra, the band that he co-founded in , and of which he is Chairman and Musical Director. Additionally, because of his prowess as a composer and arranger “Boogsie” has worked with numerous other pan orchestras in Trinidad and Tobago as well as throughout the Caribbean, the USA and England. His arrangements and compositions span a variety of musical genres including Calypso, Soca, Classical and Jazz.
